The last Sunday of every month, The Blood Moon Orchestra throws a vocal improv jam at favorite local music hang spot Seamonster Lounge in Wallingford.
The house band usually includes some combination of myself on drums, Michelle Searle on vocals, Katrina Kope on vocals (and keytar!), Melissa Montalto or Leah T on keys, Kathy Moore, Jimmy James, or Alex Mortland on guitar, and Alexienne Maloy on bass.
The audience writes down song suggestions on little bits of paper and we draw ideas out of the hat all night, making up songs about whatever is on the paper. The focus is on vocalists, and we try to get as many singers as we can to come up and participate. It's really fun, it can get pretty silly, and at the end of the night we've created a dozen or so new jams.
One time I sang a love song to a turkey sandwich, one time we had a whole jam about armadillos, this last week I sang a song called "Don't Quit Runnin'" where I jogged in place for the entire tune. Pretty much anything can go down. Come hang next month! It's free and we play 10pm to close.
