About Heather Thomas

Heather Thomas got her start in the Seattle scene as the kind of drummer who can learn an entire set in one day, play the show like she’s been in the band for years, and sit in with the next band ripping a killer funk tune with pocket or tastefully giving a singer-songwriter a settled-in groove. After touring the country with two-time Grammy-nominated Mary Lambert (of Macklemore Same Love fame) opening for artists like Gavin DeGraw, Train, Pharrell, Ariana Grande and performing live on Good Morning America, LIVE with Kelly and Michael, and VH1 You Oughta Know, she took to songwriting with a passion and intensity that soon churned out heartfelt folk tunes and complex rock numbers with the ability to stick in your head for days.

In 2020 Heather took to the road, spending each month living in a different city, exploring on her own before returning to Seattle, only to leave for California in 2021 with the goal of recording her next album. In 2022 she moved to Nashville and re-formed the Heather Thomas Band.

Heather has self-released an album and an EP and is currently finishing her next full-length record Dig On Down. Her first release from the album was the song If I Die, which came out July 7 2023.

What People Are Saying

“Heather was my first drum instructor and was SO patient and supportive as I navigated my fears of messing up and my elation over learning to play. She explained the what's, why's and wherefores of drumming which helped me understand the craft and motivated me to follow her directions. She was quick to identify my strengths and weaknesses which made each lesson a glorious challenge and satisfying for me. She's a great instructor.”

—Jolene Metcalf, drum student

“Her lessons are both challenging and fun. She has also been so helpful in working with me to develop short- and long-term goals and teaching me the basic tools to move towards attaining those goals. Thank you Heather!”

What People Are Saying

“My first time working with Heather she learned an entire 12 song set 5 hours before flawlessly performing it to a sold out crowd. In the studio she's a dream - can find the pocket perfectly right out of the gate, can learn complex parts incredibly quickly, can improvise in jaw-dropping ways during takes, is incredibly receptive to suggestions/direction, and in addition to the kit she is an amazing asset on auxiliary percussion parts. She plays what you want to hear 100 times better than you're hoping for. A calm, funny, kind presence, a complete professional, and an absolutely killer player in any genre you can throw her way. I hire Heather any time she's available and it's always the easiest decision to make.”

—Timothy Van Buren, recording/performing artist

“Heather naturally cultivates such a healthy environment, that combines challenge, positivity, and a knack for what's best for the flow of the song and the session. She has a really unique ability to keep things in the moment and lively, while always edging towards them being extraordinarily thought out and flushed out. Being in the studio with her is energizing, productive, and inspiring to anyone in the room, which ultimately translates to the listener."

— Eric Lilavois, producer
